I traveled to Japan for two weeks, and it was important for me to have stable internet access — for work, for Google Maps, and just for photos and social media. I saw a recommendation on https://reddog.fish/destinations/japan/ and decided not to bother with a physical SIM card. I signed up for an eSIM, and the process really took just a few minutes. QR code, activation — and everything worked. I especially liked that I didn't have to stand at the airport near the SIM card machines or explain anything to the salespeople in Japanese.
